Crafts Museum
The Crafts Museum is situated at Pragati Maidan and forms one of the main places to be visited on your Delhi tour. This museum has galleries displaying India's rich tradition of handicrafts. An added attraction is the presence of craftsmen, which are brought here from different parts of the country to demonstrate their skills. The Crafts museum boasts of having the most rare and exquisite pieces of art and craft selectively collected from all over the country. The museum is distinct for its architectural display of various villages. Authentically constructed mud huts are beautifully decorated with folk art and exhibits include woodcarvings, paintings, paper-mache, embroidery and a full-sized wooden haveli from Gujarat. The complex also houses the Crafts Museum Shop. There are separate galleries for displaying tribal and rural craft, courtly crafts, textile, popular culture and others. Here you can see live demonstrations by the artisans offering close glimpses of the folk arts of India. From here you can buy ritual objects, ornaments, rugs, shawls and books from the craftsmen as well as from the museum.

National Rail Museum
The National Rail Museum has a complete statistics on Indian Railway Networks. Here you can see the models of train engines and coaches, which are a delight for train-lovers. Its pride is a model of India's very first train, a steam engine that made its journey from Mumbai to Thane in 1853. The locomotives here are all displayed in the open although there is a museum as well, which is a storehouse of information on the history of railways in India. It is spread out over an area of 10 acres and is a popular attraction. The museum provides a toy train that takes children around and happens to be a source of entertainment for them. The Royal salons of the trains are definitely worth a look for the elaborate interior design. The star attraction of this museum in Delhi is the Fairy Queen; built in 1855, and considered to be the best preserved steam locomotive engines of her age. Children can enjoy a ride on the miniature rail track.

Nehru Museum & Planetarium
Nehru Museum & Planetarium was designed by Robert Tor Russel as the residence of the British Commander-in-chief. This museum in Delhi was built in 1948 to the south of Rashtrapati Bhavan, which was later converted into the residence of the Prime Minister of India in the year 1954. The Museum has a library of printed materials, books, periodicals, newspapers and photographs focusing especially on the history of modern India. Among other things a repository of unpublished records of institutions and private papers of eminent Indians kept here can prove to be a primary source for historical researches. The prizes, awards and honors received by Mr. Nehru are also displayed here along with his photographs. However, the best part is to see glimpses of Nehru's life as a part of Indian freedom struggle in Nehru planetarium.

While staying at the Hotels of New Delhi you can take a tour of all these popular museums in Delhi. Some of the other museums in Delhi include Indira Gandhi Memorial, Dolls Museum and the Air-Force Museum.
